POLITICAL INFLUENCE. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright (Rec. January 17, 11.15 p.m.) i Cape Town, January 17. Mr. Merriman deplores that the Civil Service is not under a standing commission, beyond political influence, similar to that of Australia. Despite the National Convention suggesting this, there are no indications that it is likely to be established, though much dissatisfaction exists owing to the exercise of political interference.
