Webb (president of ttie New Zealand Federation of Labour) from a member of the federation at l'oint Elizabeth, mi outbreak of fire occurred on Monday in the So. 2 mine nt that colliery, 'i'he telepram was a brief nne, stating, in efVcet, that volumes of smoke were issuing from the mine, that tho shiftmen hail lieen taken off, and that a day's work had boon lost. The Minister for Mines (Hon. It. M'Kcnzie) stated, on being questioned late last evening, that ho had received no information as to any fire breaking out at Point Elizabeth.
