SUMMARY AND FORECAST. Present indications are for a further fall in the barometer, with squally northerly and westerly winds generally, strong to sale in parts. Unsettled and cloudy weather, with rain, is probable ii> xm-st parts, and heavy rains, with rivers rising, on the West Coast of ihb South Island, for a storm area appears to be approaching from the westward. The barometer has fallen everywhere, but unsteady in the south to-day. Warm and hazy weather has prevailed, with increasing cloudiness, but unsettled and showery conditions have ruled on the West Coast of the South Island, and rain is reported there this evening. Strong westerly and northerly winds have predominated, and gales wore experienced in and southwards of Cook Strait last night. B. V. PEMBEKTON. Meteorological Office, Wellington, January 16, 1912.
