BURGLARY AT PETONE.

STORK BROKEN INTO. Some time between last Saturday night and Monday morning the grocery business conducted by Mr. J. M'Ewan. jun., in Jackson Street) Petone, was visited by a thief or thieves. It appears from inquiries that entrance had been made through the back window- by breaking the glass awl unfasteniiij the clasp, and as the shop is a "lock up" one, the burglar had everything at his mercy. Tho till was relieved of .CI in petty cash, and about JCS worth of tobacco, tea, and sundry groceries wc-re also taken. Mr. M'Ewan has only occupied the present shop for about a fortnight, lie stales that everything was safe on Saturday night when he left business. The police have the matter in hand.
