London in May, 1811, and was educated i at Addiscombe College; Woolwich Acad- , emy; commissioned It.A: in 1861; passed L Staff Collego in 1870. lie was private . secretary to Sir Garnet Wolselov in tho _ Ashanti campaign, 1873-71; and was sre- . wilt at Abrakampa, Amoaful, Bacquoh, Ordali.su and Coomassio, and was mentioned in dispatches. In South Africa, 5 1879; Zulu campaign 18S0, operations ; against Sokiikuni, when lie was severely > wounded. He was in the Ecvptian expedition of 1882, D.A.A.G. Headquarters; f present at El Mugfar, both actions .at ; Kiissassin, Tol-01-Kebir. In the Sudan in 1 IMM. A.Q.M.G.; Nile, 1885; Commandant at. Aim Fatmah.
