The first consignment of material' for tho high-power wireless station to 1m erected at Awanui has arrived' in Auck. land, and it is expected to make a start with the erection of tho iron work iu about a month. The machinery for the station has yet to come to hand. The equipment for the low-power station, to bo erected somewheTe in the vicinity of Auckland, has, it is understood, nowbeen ordered. END OF AN OLD SCHOOL. Auckland, January 14. 'The school at Harapepe, which was destroyed by fire on Thursday, had not been used for school purposes for 15 years. The building was erected when tho sawniilling' industry thrived in tho district, but latcT the population shifted. THE TOTALISATOR. Palmerston N., January 14. The members of the New iSauth Wales Totalisator Commission arrived here on Saturday, and were yesterday taken over the Maiiawatu Racing Club's courso at Awapuni, and also visited tho Highden stables and the Cloverlea stables—the latter owned by Mr. D. Buick, M.F. The Commission sits-.at Palmerston to-mor-row' and Tuesday for the purpose of hearing the evidence of several well-known racing men. 1 MOTUROA STRIKE. New Zealand, January 13. Tho Prison Board is meeting in New Plymouth to-day, tho Chief Justico presiding. It is considering all' cases of liabitual criminals in tho local gaol. WATERSIDE WAGES. Napier, January 13. A conference between tho waterside workers and employers occupied all day yesterday considering the men's demands. Ultimately a sub-conm'iiltee r-omposcd of representatives from, each side was, appointed to frnmo recommendations to be submitted to a general mooting next week. CRUSHED IN A MINE. Rcefton, January 13. James Wicken, injured last night by 1 a fall of stone at tho Progress Mines, was brought into tho hospital. ■ He is seriously injured. WAKATERE TRAGEDY. Thames, January 13. Rowlands, the lad who was shot on the Wakatere, is progressing favourably. Ho has a slight chance of recovery.
