CALLING BY POST.
The sensible system of women calling an each othar by post is now one of the established customs of Simla, which centre is India's Mayfair. All that a new-come-r need do when sho arrives in Simla is to send her name to tho librarian 'of the Town Hall, and on payment of one rupeo her name is placcd upon tho "Postal Calling I/eagne." ■ Then she can return to her honse or hotel and post her cards to all other ladies whose names aro on the list. If she chooses, on the other hand, to travol round Simla in her rickshaw, and there aro, of course, some visitors who have little else to do, she can drop her cards in the "not-at-home" boxes, which aro usually fonnd at every bungalow entrance. But a lady being so called upon can, without any offence being offered, post her cards back to tho visitors, provided, of course, sho has taken tho precaution to join the league. Manv now-comers liavo no kind of regard for this postal system of. call-paying, preferring muchly the older order, with its incidental tea-drinking and gossiping, but tho gradual extension of Simla has proved its great convenience.
