MAKARA COUNTY COUNCIL.

MONTHLY'MEETING. The monthly l , meeting of tha Makara County Council was held yesterday, ilicre were present Messrs. J. H. Haggerty (in the chair), A. J. Taylor, T. H. liastvi'ood, J. H. Monaghan, G. Monk, and I<. I'. Moore, Mr. Wheeler,; representing ,the Terawiuti .Trustees, waited on tko council re the ' Run llound" Koad, to open up communication between tho city and 'itoami I" '^f lO colmc il resolved to ask tho ierawliiti Trustees to increase their donation to 4'25, and, in the event of their replying favourably, tlio council decided to approach tho City Council. A grant of =ClO was voted to Torawhiti Station, to improve the road at Kaxori Stream and to repair tho track. The council refused to co-operate with. the Joluisonville Town Board to secure a new cemetery; the council being of tho opinion that it was not desirable to have numerous cemeteries within the county boundaries. To make possible tho improvement of the "Ilun Itoiind" at' Happy Valley, it was decided to communicate with the City Council, stating that if tho city would increase its contribution from .£SO to half tho cost, estimated not to exceed .£75, tho county would provide tha other half. Tho dog registration fee was fixed at I 2s. Gd., and John Sim, of Tawa Flat, was | appointed dog-tax collcctor. It was docided to call for applications for the position of assistant roadman for I'the county. Plans' wore considered for needed repairs to four half-bridges on the Npahauranga Gorge Road. It was suggested that instead of renewing one of tho bridges, the hill should bo tunnelled, the stream diverted, and the corner filled in. The cost was estimated at .£I2OO. Tho council resolved to meet on tho ground on Wednesday, Jajiuary 24, a'nd there to decide what should bo done.
