MAGISTRATE'S COURT.
(Before lit. W. G. Riddoll, SJL) • HIT THE CONDUCTOR. BENCH SAYS: "BRING A CASE." NOTHING ABOUT EVIDENCE, RECURRENT EOWS ON CAES. At the Magistrate's Court yesterday Ernest Scliultz was proceeded against for au alleged assault on John Henry Timnis, a train conductor. It was staled that defendant was put off an overcrowded car, and subsequently followed Timing's car, and assaulted. 'Ilmms, knocking him insensible. . Defendant stated tliat, as Tinims had put him off tho car, Tiniins hit him. Dofendant thereupon boarded the following car, and, on coming up with Timme, asked for an explanation. It was then that ho struck Tinmis. His Worship said that if defendant had been assaulted, lie could bring a case against Timms. A line of .£1 was made. THE RUTLEDGE EAXDS. William M'Enerney was charged that, Ixring tho occupier of unlicensed promises in lork Street, where liquor waa unlawfully sold, he was privy to such sale. Tho date set down was December 25. Sergeant Kutlcdge gave evidenoo of tho result of a raid made by Constable MTielvio and himself; and Constable Holmes doposed that ho had paid 55.-there for seven glasses of beer. Constable Holmes added that, while ho was in the house, he had heard defendant and another man talking of "Getting some more whisky for the night." M'Enerney was lined .£lO. Richard Phillips wos fined -El 5 for unlawfully selling beer to Constable Hardy on January 7. Edward Dodd and William Dnnbar wore oach fined for being found in a house ! where liquor was unlawfully sold. OTHER CASES. Albert Anson waa fined <£1 for assaulting Sarah Falloon. Fot insobriety, Ernest Stanley Mott was ordered to pay 17s. Gd. expenses. For being absent from tho vessel Dray- | ton Grange without leave, David Heam was ordered to forfeit two days' pay. Edward Patrick Owen was sentenced to 11 days' imprisonment for using bad language. For keeping a shop open on Sunday, Deoember 31, in view of Taranaki Street, for tho purposo of traisacting business, Margaret Batry was fined £1. For having horses wandering at large, Thomas Fj. Jackson was ordered to pay lis. court costs; William Hedges, lis. costs; and Thomas G. Sargeant was fined ss„ and ordered to pay lis. costs. Wons; She and Co. were fined £2 for I employing a shop assistant after 9 o'clock in tho evening.
MOUNT COOK COUET. At tho -Mount Cook Police Court yesterday, before Mr. T. S. Lambort, J.P., Georgo Williams, charged with drunkennoss in Cuba Street, and who had been bailed out for 10s., did not appear. Ho was fined 10s., 111 default 48 hours imprisonment. Henry Livesoy was charged with drunkenness in Cuba Street. He was found bruised about tho head. Having paid tho 6urgeon's fee (one guinea), ho was adr moaislied, convicted, and discharged.
