OBITUARY.

— 1 . MR. HUGH POLLEN. The death occurred last evening of Mr. Hugh Pollen, Secretary to the Department of Internal Affairs, and an official who was well known from end to end of the Dominion. Mr. Pollen, who was a son of the late Hon. Dr. Pollen, SI.L.C., one time Premier of New Zealand, and a cousin of Dr. Pollen, of this city, had only been J week, and the intelligence of his death will come rather as a blow to many of his friends in the Civil Service. Deceased was a man of retiring disposition, but his courtesy and conscientiousness made him esteemed by all with whom lie came into contact. Death occurred at the residence of the deceased, in Hanson Street, Newtown. - SIR J. P. GIBSON, M.P. Bj Telerraph—Press Association-Copyright (Rec, January 12, 1.10 a.m.) London, January 11. The death is announced of Sir J. P. Gibson, M.P. ' . Sir James Puckering Gibson was born in 1849. He was educated in the Edinburgh Institution and University, and was a member of the Edinburgh Merchant Company, and the Edinburgh Chamber of Commerce. He was created a First Baronet in the year 1909, and was M.P. for the East Division of Edinburgh since 1909.
