MID=WEEK CRICKET.
UNION'S RECOVERY. GOOD BATTING AND BOWLING. Quito a fine victory was achieved by Union in (heir match with Vivian, which was completed yesterday, and most of the interest in the Wednesday games at the Basin Reserve centred on this. The encounter look a .somewhat unexpected turn as the afternoon wore on. In their first venture at the wickets Vivian had nmnssed 205 runs, while Union had been rattled out for 91, arid had to follow on. They got to work, however, in good stylo in their second innings, and, when the •board showed 249 for eight wickets they declared. Of this total Warne played a, solid but very lucky innings for 111, being missed no fewer than .four times. Requiring 136-runs to overhaul Union, tho Vivian eleven wero mown down for 54, Dempsey carrying his bat for 27, Union thus. won outright by 81 runs. A feature of the match was the bowling of Victor Harris for Union. Among other exploits he did the "hat trick;" dismissing Bramley and Castles with the last two ■ balls of ono over, and capturing Hill's wickot with the first ball of the next. Artillery had an easy win—ten wickcU —over Rivals, the bo\yling of Bailey proving very good.
