Mr. Wm. Davidson, who died at his residence in May Street last Saturday, was born in tho north of Scotland in 1847. Twenty years later he left, the service of tho Union Bank of Scotland lo come out to New Zealand, where ho was accountant for some years to Lango and Thonemau, wholesale merchants, Dunedin. In 1875 he was chosen as accountant to tho Union Insurance Company, when it first started business in Christchurch. Then he went to Timnrii to manage for the company, also for the A.M.P. Society, and at the same time acted as Oflicial Assignee. Afterwards he came to Wellington, where he was appointed representative of the New York Lifo Insurance Company. Up to the time of his last illness he was on the staff of tho Registrar-General here. Sir. Davidson had strong literary tastes, being the mithor of tho book "Stories of Now Zealand Life," nnd was n contributor to the leading journals of tho Dominion, no leaves a widow and a family of three daughters and threo sons. Sir Wilfrid Laurier received many telegrams of congratulation on his seventieth birthday on November 20. Among these wow messages from the King, Mr. 'Asquith, and Mr. Lloyd-George, and others from Australia and New Zealnnd, while all parts of the Dominions were represented.
