. N.B.A. TOURNAMENT. FOUR HUNDRED COMPETITORS. THE FIEST DAY'S PLAY. . The twenty-first annual tournament of tho Northern Bowling Association opened yesterday .morning in perfect '■ weather. Thanks, to the genial wannth of.the sun. during tho past- few days, the greens, whjch have been on-the dull'side,-, haveeinco become fairly keen, and, ontbaV score- there wore no complaints. ' Play commenced promptly; at 9,15.a.m. on all. Ihtt city and suburban greens.'' Even at the:.Wellirigton green, where the opening ceremony took place, tho president ■ (Mr. ■>■ &• Keith) spoke at tUO a.m., in order.' that the play should comm'ence right on *l me ",, lhere.wero-112 players engaged on the.-Wellington green (out.of a total of 100- engaged in tho' tournament), and as they swarmed on to the ever-so-green greens,, sporting the brightly diverso colour's of their ,clubs, tho sight was unmistakably a fair one. Very full and. complete arrangements have been made- for tho and comfort of visiting bowlers by the tournament officials. Tho officials are «rf-follow:-Presid«ht-, Jfr. Ji'S. Keith, president, addressed < his fellow-bowlers in a characteristically He said that tho entry of 100 rinks was the- largest tho association had ever had, and was a record for the, Dominion. Seeing that there was sUch a large entry, it .was only ■natural, that there- should be a large number of visitors; and on behalf of the, executive -,hq extended them a, hearty wolcome, and trusted that they- would have 'a -.pleasant and enjoyable .week. With that object in view, ■ the various committees had left-nothing undone; to make tho. stay of .tho visitors, as. pleasant, as possible. Further, the.' council had deemed it advisable to eliminate the pairs match from the programme. (Hear, hear.) Under the -existing arrangements bowlers would p> oh to a green and would, play on that preen for tho whole of the day, and fuueheta and refreshments would be provided on the various, rrreens.- The association was-, now in its,.twenty-first year.
