HOOKING BLACKBIRDS.
■■■ EFFECTIVE BUT CRUEL METHOD. ( A farmer'iii tho Jtanawatn has, says f tho "Standard," succeeded in baiting a ; large number of blackbirds, by means i of small books. Tho birds are particularly fond of black currants, and the expedient adopted is to hang a small hoolc with a berry on tho barb, from one of tho lower branches of the bush. Hooks can be hung in this manner all round the tree. The method adopted is certainly cruel, but -the farmer who has resorted to it urges that the work of extermination must be curried cut or there Vill bo no fruit. '• ''
