WESTLAND RACING CLUB'S MEETING. A HORSE KILLED. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) | Hokitika, January 5. Glorious weather provailed for the second and concluding day of the Westland Racing Club's meeting to-day. There was again a largo attendance. Tho sum of '<£6032 was nut through tho machine, making a total of ,£12,067 for the two days, compared with .£BOll last year. This meeting's investments arc easily a record for Hokitika. Tho following are tho results:— GOLDSBOROUGH HANDICAP, of 25 sovs. Seven furlongs.—Toanga, Bst. 71b., 1; Miss Gift, Bst. Gib., 2; Obligate, Bst. 91b„ 3. Ito also started. Won by two lengths, with plenty to spare. Time, lnnn. 35sec. TELEGRAPH HANDICAP, of 40 sovs. Five furlongs.—Perm, 7st. 101b., 1; Kilts, 9st. Gib., 2; Featherston, Sst. 91b., 3. Divorce, Redwing, Gasoline,and Venusnlso started. Won by two lengths, Featherston a good third. Time, lmin. 5 l-ssec. SUMMER HANDICAP TROT. One mile.—Sergeant Havelock, 13sec., 1; Comi rado, Bsec., 2; Royal Princess, 20sec., 3. Won with something to spare. Time, 2 mill. 42 l-ssec. HOKITIKA HANDICAP, of GO sovs. One mile and a quarter.—Outlander, 9st. 71b., 1; Shannon Lass, Bst. 51b., 2; Waipunui, 9st. 131b., 3. Won easily by two and a half lengths. Time, 2min. 13 4-5 RIMU HANDICAP TROT, of 35 sovs. Two miles—Chips, 1; Sergeant Havelock, 2Gsec„ 2; Motor, 4sec., 3. Thirteen others started. Won easily. Time, smin. 19sec. WELTER-WEIGHT HANDICAP, of 40 sovs. Six furlongs and a half.—Kilts, 9st. 61b., 1; Toanga, Bst. 6lb„ 2; Obligate, Bst. 91b., 3. Won fairly easily. Time, lmin. 26 2-ssec. FINAL HANDICAP, of 40 sovs. Five furlongs and a half.—Gasoline, Bst., 1; Inchbouny, Bst. 71b., 2; Redwing, Sst., 3. There was considerable delay at tho post, caused principally by Perm, who did not seem inclined to set out on the race, which unfortunately proved to be his last. The field were eventually let away to a fair start. Gasoline being prominent, just after the barrier roso. Coming round the bend into the straight Feathorston, Perm, and Merchantman appeared to jam together, with the result that all three fell. Perm was killed, whilo the rider (Griffen) received a severe shaking. The other horses and riders were not seriously iujured. Gasoline came on and won from Inchbonny, Redwing running into the third place. Time, Iniin. 11 l-ssec. •
