Marriage is a state not to bo lightly undertaken by the German postman, tor the administration is most inquisitorial beforchaud. Ho is confronted with a number of questions which would stagger his English colleague. 1. What is the financial position of— (a) the postman; (b; his own parents and those of his wife'; (c) his wife? . 2. Who paid the cost of furnishing the house, etc.? 3. Have any debts been contracted as a 'result of providing for the marriage? •t. Can the postman count on any financial help from his own or his wife s parents? . ■ ~ 5. Hsis his wife any occupation or calling outside tho house; if so, what wage does she earn? . , G. Is there any possibility of getting into debt? ■ ' , i One of the German service journals asks whether tho Government is really wise to allow its postmen to marry at all.
