Last week two wool buyer?, from Bradford mid America respectively, were in tho Feitding district (says tiio "Star"i, and called upon a number of the growers in the locality. A* ;t result thnv purchased about 500 bales, .to be shipped direct to their respective factories. The prices offered were quite 'satisfactory to the growers. Tho two buyers will be .in the district again in about a fortnight. Orchards iu Palmerstoii this season (says tho "Standard"/ are stated to be singularly free from codlin moth, a fact which is attributed largely to the heuvy winds that have been prevailing of late. Small birds, too, :>vc .-tuted to be less numerous (him usual, due, no doubt, to the fact that so many boys have been collecting eggs. The "Live Stock Journal" states that from Mr. Wheeler's herd of Black Polled cattle at Clavordon Loep, Warwick, a fine young bull has rcssntly been fold to .Messrs. John Thornton and Co. for exportation to New Zealand. A dairy farmer from America, wlio is visiting tho I'aimcrston North district at present, states (according to tlio "Standard") that maize, when stored in the same manner as hay, makes an excellent winter fodder for cows, and is largely used iu that manner in tho United Slates. It should be cut, he states, just when tho covering of the cob is turning yellow, and then put into stocks for four "or five weeks. After that it can be either stacked or put into a shed, tho latter for preference. If it is stacked great care must bo taken to see that the stack is properly topped, otherwise the wet will penetrate and spoil the whole cron.
