Referring to the announcement published in Tile Dominion of yesterday's date, of Lieutenant-Colonel Duthie's retirement from the command of the Fifth Regiment, it has boeu pointed out that Hie assumption of the command by , the senior major of the battalion does not carry with it tho rank of "actiug-lioutenant-colonel," as was stated in the published announcement yesterday. Under tho rules of the previous regime the statement as published would have been quite correct, but under the new order of things there is no such thing as "acting" rank of any kind. Major C. Harcourt Turner, therefore, retains his present rank uatil he has qualified by examination in tactical fitness for command. Major -I?. J. Courtney (of tho Wellington Division, New Zealand Garrison Artillery), Major Petherick (D Battery), and Major Turner (Fifth Regiment) will shortly sit for this examination.
Mr. C. A.
