EMIGRANT SHIPS.
BOARD OF TRADE'S SUPERVISION. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright London, January 3. The "Pall Mall Gazette," after inquiry in official quarters, explains that the traveller evidently overlooked the fact that a steamer's license does not apply when it becomes an emigrant ship. The paper adds that the Board of Trade's supervision makes overcrowding impossible. (R«c. January 5, 0.15 a.m.) Sydney, January 4. Mr. Bell, organiser of the British Seamen's Union, strongly criticises the condition of emigrant ships, and declares that they are undermanned, over-crowded, and badly equipped.
