MAGISTRATE'S COURT.

Business at the Magistrate's Court was brief yesterday inorniiig.i Oliuo Ootlieb Theoden Van Vchen admitted having travelled on the Aornngi between Papeete and ■Wellington without paying his fare. He was lined «£5 (amount of the fare) in default one month's imprisonment. A youth, named Philip Albrecht, was charged with stealing a diamond ring on December 27. Sub-Inspector Sheelmn stated that the accused had taken the ring, which was valued at £6 155., and had sold it for ss. Tho magistrate, alter giving Albrecht some good advice, recorded a conviction and ordered • him to come up for sentence'when called on. Cecil Graham was convicted and discharged for drunkenness, but, for breach of a prohibition order, he was fined 405., with tho option of seven days' imprisonment. A tirst-ou'euding inebriate was fined 55., with the alternative of 48 hours' imprisonment. Another first offender was convicted and discharged.
