Zenlandic, the new steamer belonging to the Shaw; Savill and Albion Line of steamera, arrived at Wellington on her maiden voyage from Liverpool, via way ports, yesterday afternoon. She is a vessel 477 ft. long by 62ft. 9in. in beam, and of about 8000 tons gross register, and is one of the lincst immigrant and cargo carriers which has visited this port for some time. She has very large cargo capacity in six holds. Two are for .general cargo, and the other four are insulated for carrying frozen cargo. There is accommodation for a number of firstclass passengers, with a romfortable saloon on the bridge deck. The smoke-room is also situated on the bridge, deck, adjoining the saloon. A feature of the ship is the cabin accommodation, specially arranged for over 1100 third-class passengers, with space on the shelter deck for the third-class smoke-room and diningroom. There is also a third-class ladies' room. The propelling machinery- consists of two sets of quadruple-expansion engines on the 'balanced" principle. Tho vessel is lighted throughout with electric light and lined with'the Marconi system of wireless telegraphy. On her present voyage' the Zcalandic left Liverpool on November 1 with 1181 thirdclass passengers on board. Very heavy weather was encountered on the run down the coast and through the Bav of Biscay, but the vessel proved herself an excellent sea boat. She called at Teneriffc, and then proceeded to . Cape Town, arriving there on November 21, and, after taking in water and allowing the passengers a. run ashore, proceeded on her voyage on the following day. Arriving at Fremantle on December 7, 600 passengers were disembarked, and the vessel loft for Adelaide, vrhcro 335 passengers quitto'd tho steamer. The Zcalandic left Adelaide on December 14, and met with exceedingly rough weather passing Wilson's Promontory. She arrived at Sydney on December 17, where the balance of the passengers wore disembarked, and the vessel sailed for Auckland and Wellington. The new steamer averaged a speed of knots an hour throughout the vovagu. While on the run from Adelaide to Sydney, she maintained a speed of 15 knots an hour. Captain J. After discharging explosives in the stream, the Zcalandic will berth at the | wharf to discharge 2200 tons of cargo. The vessel leaves for Lyttelton and Duiiedin on Monday. ULIMAIiOA FROM SYDNEY. Particularly line -weather favoured the Iluddart-Parker steamer Ulimaroa on her trip from Sydney to Wellington, and the vessel was enabled to cut the distance out in the good time of 3 days 16 hours. She left the New South Wales port, at noon on Saturday, and dropped anchor in the stream a few minutes after 4 a.m. yesterday. During tho trip deck games and concerts were freely indulged in. and on Tuesday evening a benefit .concert, given, in, nid-of the Shipwrecked Mariners' Relief Fund, realised £7 17s. The Ulimaroa brought about SCO tons of cargo, ond upon completion of discharge will leave for Melbourne, via, southern ports, at 5 p.m. to-day. ." APARIMA'S MOVEMENTS. From Calcutta, via Singapore,'tho Onion Company's tramp steamer Aparima arrived at Auckland at 8 a.m. on -Tuesday. It is hoped to dispatch her for Wellington to-morrow, and she is due here on Sunday. Before the Aparima. leaves for Lyttelton and Dunedin on Monday she will.discharge 7CO tons of cargo. THE TOKOMARU. •'■' At 2 a.m. yesterday the New Zealand Shipping Company's chartered steamer Tokomaru left Gisborne for Wellington. The vessel, which is en route from Montreal, should reach port early this morning, and berths at No. 14 Jervois Quay. MAKERE FOR LONDON-. An arrival in port yesterday afternoon was tho TyEor liner Marcre. Here the vessel completes riomeward loading, and Is expected to sail for Loudon, via Las Talmas, to-morrow evening. WHAKATANE FOR nOME TO-DAY. Telegraphic advice received from Lyttelton last night stated that the New Zealand Shipping Company's steamer Whakatane was to sail for London, via Monte Video and Teneriffe, at 5 a.m. to-day. AORANGI DUE THIS MORNING. Aorangi, R.M.S., is expected to arrive at Wellington from San Francisco, via way ports, at 6 a.m. to-day.- She will berth at the Queen's Wharf No. 6 to land passengers and discharge cargo. WAIWERA LEAVES ST. JOHN. Cable advice received by the New Zealand Shipping Company is to the effect that their, chartered steamer Waiwera left St. John (Canada) for Wellington, via way porle, on December 28. Tho vessel is due at Wellington about March 18. MARIPOSA SOLD. Tho Alaska Steamship Company has socured another of the Oceanic Company's fleet—tho s.s. Mariposa—which was at one time associated with the Australian trade. The Mariposa, which was under the command of Captain Hay ward, who subsequently served in the sister ships Sierra, Sonoma, and Ventura, like the Alameda, purchased by the same company some time ago, and now on the Copper River run. is to undergo extensive alterations to render her suitable for the new owners' requirements, and will then again resume running in conjunction with tho Alameda, with which she maintained the service between San Francisco, Auckland, and Sydney under the Union Company's flag. MAKURA LEAVES VANCOUVER. At noon on December 27, R.M.S. Mokura left Vancouver for Auckland and Sydney; via way ports. With a cargo of 96,000 feet of limber, the Union steamer Waipori is expected at Wellington, about the beginning of next week. At present the vessel is discharging at Dunedin. Her cargo is from Huon (Tasmania). On arrival at Wellington from Nelson and Pieton this evening, the Takapuna, withdrawn from tho service. Tho Patecna will maintain the running, leaving Wellington on Mondays, Wednesdays, and.Fridays, atusual. Haupiri, s.s.. is not expected to arrive at Gisborne from Auckland before to-day or to-morrow. She is due at Wellington about Saturday, and will' probably sail for Pietou on Monday. East Capo reports that the Talune passed south at 12.55 p.m.' yesterday. A strong north-west wind .was blowing, and it is anticipated that the vessel will not arrive- at Wellington until to-morrow morning. The Talune has 800 tons of fruit to put out here. This morning the Government steamer Hinemoa is expected back at Wellington with the Government House stall. The vessel will have a- new engineroom telegraph fitted • before proceeding on her periodical visit to southern lighthouses on Monday afternoon. On arrival at Wellington from London, via way ports, this morning, the ShawSavill steamer Delphic anchors in r the stream to discharge explosives. Subsequently she berths to discharge 1200 tons of cargo, and is expected to sail for the Bluff on Tuesday. • A. projected departure' from Wellington for Lyttelton at 4 p.m. to-day is the ShawSavill R.M.S. Arawo. At the southern port she completes loading for London. The Arawa, leaves Wellington for London, via way ports, on January.;2s. The Union Company's .steamer Kotukn, which has been laid up at Wellington, signed on a crow and left for Grcymouth yesterday afternoon. Mr. V. Duff, purser of tho Maori, has gone to Dunedin in consequence of circumstances attending bereavement in his family. Mr. 0. Wheeler, late of the Navua, is purser of the Maori for a. trip or two. Tho Tyscr liner Star of Canada is expected to get away from Napier for Wellington at noon to-day. She should arrive here early to-morrow morning. Having completed discharge of her New York cargo for Wellington, the Tyscr steamer Star of Australia cleared for. Lyttelton and Dunedin yesterday afternoon. Captain W. Stevens, who has been in command of the Maitat in tho WellingtonSan Francisco run, was a passenger from Sydney by the Ulimaroa yesterday. Captain Stevens joins the Aorangi at Wellington- to-day. The. steamer Te Anau is on the "lay-np" berth' at Port Chalmers for a spell. The Kowhai has been cleaned and painted at the southern port. Tho fact that the barque Don Is again on her way to Lyttelton, New Zealand, calls to mind that when she last visited that port the sailing vessel was meeting with dull times in the matter of charters, says tho Sydney "Commercial News and Shipping List." But despite that the Don fared well, for after remaining in port some time, she loaded a full cargo at a fair rate. Tho Don was then under the British Hag, but, like many more of her class, has since passed into the hands of foreign owners, and now flies tho Norwegian flag. The Don will make Dunedin her first port of call, subsequently proceeding to Lyttelton, half of her cargo •of timber from Baltic ports being for discharge there. .Captain Jensen is master of the Don. Latest charters include tho barque Jessie Craig, 633 tons. She takes a cargo of Newcastle coal to Auckland.
