ASSOCIATION OF SUGGESTIVE THERAPEUTICS.

| -» ANNUAL CONFERENCE. The fifth annual conference of the Association of Suggestive Theraputics was held 011 December 30, 1911. The president, in welcoming the various mem hers to the conference, said ho was pleased to state that the interest in mental healing in its various forms was still on the increase everywhere. It was interesting to note that President Taft had altered the Panama Canal Board of Health Regulations .in order to permit mental healing or the practice of religious utilising such healing, provided sanitary laws aud other health regulations at present prevailing in the Canal zone arc adhered to. Tho arrangement is the result of persistent agitation by Christian scientists. This was particularly gratifying; Lecausc several States in Amcrica had legislated to prevent the practice of Christian Science healing. Since they believed that suggestion was at tile root of all systems of mental healing, the action of the president was very gratifying, and it was doubtless backed np by a considerable consensus if public opinion. Moreover, medical men were rapidly coming round. Doubtless they were beginning to feel tho onus of offering further opposition, especially seeing that it was futile, and that suggestive therapoutics was bound to hold a prominent place in tho healing of the future. They would scarcely havethe face to claim a monopoly of a system they had so persistently opposed during the last fifty .voars. The need for tho society and legislation on the subject became more and more apparent as time went on.

Tho morning session was limited to the members of the association.

At 2.30 the afternoon session opened, (o which the public wore invited. Mr. F. Helps, of Diinedin, read a paper, on "Tlio Physical and Menial Mechanism of Healing," after which Mr. Shaw delivered his presidential address on "The Law of Automatism." ' •

A very interesting discussion followed, and hearty votes of thanks were passed to the president, for his kind invitation to non-members to be present, also to Mr. Shaw and Mr. Helps for their very able and helpful papers. The conference closed at 5 p.m.

"Love your neighbour as yourself," said th© minister with great earnestness. "Thomas," whispered the lady to her husband, who lived next door to a pretty young widow, "come away; this' is noplace for you."

Invalid husband: "Did you say I was to take all (hat medicine?' Wife: "Yes, dear." Invalid husband: "Why, there's enough to kill a donkey!" VFifr (anxiously) : "Then you'd better not lake all of it -lolm".
