FIRES.

SHOPS DAMAGED. (By Telegraph-Press Association.) January 3. A five occurred at four minutes past t o'clock this morning'in a two-story building in Colombo Street, owned by J. C. JladdisOn, and occupied by J. Martin, pastrycook, and J. Shannon, pork butcher. Tho pastrycook's shop and contents were severely damaged by neat and smoke, and the butcher's shop was also damaged. Martin was insirreil for .£"5 in the Piiconix office, and Sharman for .£l5O in the Standard. The building was insured for ,£4OO in the London and Lancashire office. Last night n- fire occurred in promises at Sydenham owned and occupied by Jlr. Vogan, baker. A portion only was severely damaged. The building was insured ill the Victoria office for .itOD. and the contents in tho'same office for ,£lO5. SCARBOROUGH FIRIO. Pahiatua, January 2. .'A four-roomed house at Scarborough, occupied by Jlr. G. Baker, and owned by Mr. H.'Dillon, was destroyed by tire, which originated through clothes left in front of the .fireplace igniting. Tho insurances are .£IOO on tho house and «£IOO on the furniture.
