PROSPECTS.
THE EVENTS FOR TO-DAY. LARNED STANDS OUT. The visiting teams were entertained at a private dinner to-night by. Mr. Norman -Bayles, M.P., of Victoria, an ex-champion lawn tennis player, who knows the players all well. A very pleasant evening was spent, and, amongst the toasts honoured were "Mr. Dwight Davis," the founder of the contest, and "The Donor of the Cup," and "The Two Teams." Lamed will in all probability hot play to-morrow. He has applied to th 6 referee (Mr.- F M. B. Fisher) to be allowed to stand down under ono of the rides providing for a substitute in case of sickness, accident, or other hindrance, and has produced a doctor's certificate to the effect that he is suffering from a rheumatic ankle and a strained achilks tendon This the referee will probably' have to accept, in which case young M'Longhlin will no doubt piny in his stead against Brookes.
Tho other match is between Beats Wright and Heath. The latter has been playing a fine game, but Wright will probably carry too many guns for him tomorrow.
