The champioii'.from-Napier was very sore, and Goldtiridor, the only other, starter, was .outclassed. ' ' '• ■' . ' . "'.

After the Newmarket Handicap, the stewards met to hear'a complaint from , the owner-of Royal , Soult, who- , alleged that K..Hatch : did not ride to. win.' The complaint was. speedily dismissed. Probably because he had the services of 11. Gray, Captain Soult was made favourite, in the opening event. The stable which shelters Wee Olga and Maheno withdrew the-former, and the latter, who is [jetting up in years now, won handsomely. The favourite had every chance, and was in front half-way down the straight, but ho failed to finish. Mauinina and First Wairiki made the early running, but both were done with at' the straight entrance. The-form of lileriot had been to consistent on the preceding days that it catilo as no surprise to find tsie ir'oult filly a warm 1 order in the two-year-old event. She won easily, and' her rider had quite an easy time of it. • flaskayne again gave bother at the barrier, but he went off fairly well, and after setting a bad run put in some telling strides at the finish, and got second place. Inpnacost was prominent tho wholo Yiay. Electrakoff closed up a firm favourite in tho Grandstand Handicap, and after a very pretty race he won nicely. Wee Olga set a very fast pace from General Latour, Masterpiece, and EloctrakonY The leader (lied away going down the hill. Electrakoff, stalling off runs by Domino, Masterpiece,, and, Coro'mandrf, won comfortably by of lengths. Coromandel was badly-blocked fifty yards off the post, or he would have been second. ' ■

The ■Royal' Stakes was tho most exoiting race of tho meeting, and was full of incident from the rise of the barrier, which took place to a beautiful start. Beldamo momentarily showed in front, but Winning. Way soon displaced her only to in turn be supplanted by Culprit. The latter was two lengths clear as they raced down the hill, but three. furlongs from home the whole fie-'.d was closely bunched, and the'cheering was tremendous. Culprit was first into the straight; then came AVinning Way and PrinceSoultV'Culprit ■left-the fence, but Prince Soult's rider preferred not to go up there. Well down the running Winning Way and Culprit -tvere-hend and head. At a critical juncture the former went out a little under the- great pressure, imd as if by magic. Deeley took Prince Soult up, and in two he was-in command. 'A roar went up from the crowd when it was seen that • tho local colt was a winner. He had a two-lengths' margin- at the finish, while Winning Way was a neck in front of Culprit. Canute finished well after losing ground at the humq turn.

The public were correct in their summing up of the hurdle race, for the favourite, Presently, won easily in very fast time. Black Northern made the pace fast for a mile, when Presently.', joined him. The pair were out by themselves at .the second feijce. from home,'•=" which Black Northern got into. The favourite then ivont on alone, and won easily. As usual, -Sol finished very fast. Delegate was only a nock in front of Black Northern. *

. Ireland was tho elect of backnrs in the Nowluarket Handicap. In his three previous efforts the Kilcheran colt had failed to jump out, but to-day he. was first away, and, never letting tho others in, he won pulling up by three li'rigths. The remainder wore badly strung out. The Auckland Plate provided only three runners, but the class was there. The. Chok'ebqre filly was the hottest favourite of'the meeting, and jumping nit in. front she led the T.hole way. Ilobrikpff was within a couple of lengths of her down the back, and (He eicitement rose as the black fellow made.a forward move down tho hill.' At the stiaight entrance he was on the filly's quarters, but it was only on sufferance, as she came away again and won easily.' Bobrikofl' pulled up' very sore!

The just event was the lest of- good things "for Outward,' who to-day got a <:leav run, and succeeded in turning tho tables on Crown Pearl, who v.'as meeting her on nearly a stono worse lerms. The performance (if the second horse was a good one, and it was only in tho last half-furlong that ho was bci'.en.
