Tho Pacific Cable Board lias informed the Commonwealth Government that a new Australia-New Zealand cable would cost ,£155,000. Tho total value of the New Zealand cable traffic is ,£30,000 yearly. Of this, the board, working one cable, has been handling .£20,000. , By reductions of staff and other economies a new cable would eave ,£6OOO per annum. It will be laid this year. '
