TRAFALGAR SQUARE DEUONSTRATION. By Teleeraph—Press Association—Oopyrisht London, January 1. A number of Labour and Unionist members of the House of Commons attended a Trafalgar Sqnaro demonstration. Mr. J. W. Hilfs, Unionist member for Durham, upon an invalid couch, was hoisted to the plinth of the Kelson column. He protested against a northern firm controlling . the Thames ironworks and the men being required to abandon the shorter hours which they had enjoyed for fifteen years. THE EIGHT HOURS' DAY. (Rec. January 2, ft.s p.m.) London, January 2. The trades union agitation against .increasing the hours of the Thames ship building workers continues. The ,recciv6V'has written to Mr. Churchill asking that the Thames Ironworks be made Admiralty contractors without the intervention of the northern firm, and preserving the eight hours' day.
