CAPTAIN HEAD'S EXPLORATIONS. The Christchurck "Press" states: Wo learn from a telegram from Paradise, Lake Wakatipu, that Captaiu Head and party have arrived thero from Mount Aspirin?. Captain Head was very unfortunate in the weather, and had to give up for tho present any hope of again climbing the; mountain, which, it may be remembered, he was the first to ascend. The party explored tho east branch of the Matukituki River from November 23 to December 6, and on Saturday, December IC, they went up to tho river to Satisfaction Camp. Captain Head, with Guides Clark and Murphy, and Mr. K. E. Tnpper, put in a high bivouac on luesday, and on Wednesday got up to tho plateau, 7500 feet, at 8 a.m., after a heavy plug through soft snow. They had a lovely view for half an hour, and tho weather then becoming very thick they returned to camp. It came on to snow about 8 p.m., and next morning the snow was nearly a, foot deep, so they had to pack up and return to their base at Cascade Camp. They spent till December 20 in exploring the . west branch of tho river, but had mueh bad weather, with exceptionally heavy snow. On December 27 they crossed into the Dart vallev by it pass to the west of Camp Cascade, and arrived at Paradise on December 30 after a very interesting ' trip down the Dart
