FIRE IN TINAKORI ROAD
. —_—« _ •• BOAfIDINGHOUSE DESTROYED. NOTHING SAVED. A large boardinghouse, No. 119 a, Tinakori Bead, was destroyed- by fire early this morning. The-house. : which was owned by .Mr- Sheriff, of Wellington, and. leased hy Mr. V. Diamoiid, contained 16 rooms. The only occupants 'at-tho--time were Mr. and Mrs. Diamond,- as all the boarders were away for. the holidavs. '■THc'fire was first discovered hy Mr. Diamond, at about 1.30 a.m. It had bv that, time taken possession of the building, and. all that Mr. and Mrs. Diamond could do was to escape from the building witlv little or no clothing heyond their night attire. ■ The brigade was quickly on thescene with two engines, and as the house stodd detached they were able without difficulty, to confine the flames to'-"the burning building. More than that could not be done, and the house and-its contents, w.efo totally destroyed.
