DAVIS CUP STRUSGLE.
-e POSTPONED THROUGH WEATHER. (By TclcgraDh.—Special CorreSDondwU Ghristchurch, December 29. There is general disappointment regarding tho postponement of the Davis Cup contest, but the ground is absolutely sodden, and piny was out of the question. Had tho ground been properly protected play would have been possible this afternoon, or at least to-morrow, but., though the management was warned weeks ago of the importance of this, the provision actually made was quite inadequate. Tiie Americans are very particular about having the court in good condition, and Brookes seems equally decided ou the point. ' _ . _ . ■ Cjiristcburch is crowded with people who have come to witness tho great event, but many will have to return disappointed to their homes before it is finished. The American team to-day, in default of tennis, took walking exercise, and Dr. Norman Brookes went out to Shirley with Mr.. Norman Bayles, M.P., of-Mel-bourne, and played golf. Tho tennis champion played a very fino game, and his drives wore long a.n<l straight, showing at all events that his eye is "in."
