1 HUTT TROTTING CLUB. . Nearly lliroe thousand people at the Petone Recreation Ground ynstorday afternoon when the Hull: Valley Trotting Club hold its ninth annual meeting. Only ono accident of any seriousness occurred. Ridden by her owner (Mi. W. 11. Uowdcn) Hondicea came down rather heavily just after starting , in Hie [taxing Day Handicap. Tlic marc was uninjured, but llr. Bowden lay far some time stunned, and it was found that he had sustained a flight concussion oi' the brain. Boadieea ran in a later event but was not placed. The racing, as a whole, was not exciting. The only close finishes were thoso in the Ladies' Bracelet and Stewards' Handicap. Tho sum put i.through the totalisator amounted to ■£2910 10s. During the afternoon Mr. D. Nyhan gave an exhibition trot of a mile with his bay horse. Havoc, which had been scratched in the Electric Handicap. Accompanied by a galloper, Havoc did the niilo in record tome for the track, namely 2inin. ISsec. Tho start in tho Stewards' Handicap was delayed by an accident to Hiss Loiisdale's sulky, which was kicked to pieces by one of her competitors as the horses were gathering before tho starter. Dinz Dona led at the start, but broke half-way round, and fell back. Merry Child was leading at the eud of tho first round, John H., Off Chance, Peggy G.,. and Ding Dong following in that order. Merry Child continued to lead for three rounds, but, in the fourth, Franz Josef gained steadily; eventually passing the post with a lead of four lengths on Merry Child, Peggy G. being about half that distance further back. Tc Awahuri gained steadily all the wny, and made a. gallant attempt to obtain tho lead in Iho final round. Hester looked badly blown towards the end of the race, but beat her challenger, in a close finish, by a, length. The little grey was cheered as she passed tho post. Tory by breaking several times in the final α-otmd. In the event she was easily beatyn for second place by Sonny. All SteeJf won easily. Time, 2min. 37 1-osec. STEWARDS' HANDICAP. Ono mile. Mr. C.
