BUT "IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE MEDICAL EVIDENCE/; , An inquest was held at the Manistratc's Court yesterday morning, Mora Mr. W, G. Kiddcll, S.M., concerning tho death of an elderly woman named Mary Burnip, who was found dead at a. house in Francis Plaoo on Monday morning. Senior Sergeant Dnrby conducted the inquiry on behalf of tho police. Herbert Lloyd Jonos, wharf labourer, stated that ho roiidod at Vrancis Place, and had known deceased for about fivo weeks. Ho had been living with deceased, Hugh Mayne, and Catherine Stanley. On Sunday, witness, Mnyue, and deceased wore in the house, and witness told Burnip that she would have to go away as she was under the influence of liquor. She went away, and came back in twenty minutes. The other? decided to lravo her outside to get sober, while they went away to lunch.. On returning, deceased was in the house In a drunken condition, and a bottle and a. half of whisky had disappeared in the interim. Witness again ordered deceased out, and she went. At about 10 p.m. he saw her sleeping in an outhouse, and threw a blanket over hor. On getting up in tho morning, witness said that he had got the "shock of his life" on finding tho woman dead on tho kitchen floor. To tho police: "No blows were struck whon an altercation over the whisky occurred." His Worship: Was sbo addicted to drink?—" Yes." Continuing, witness stated that be had noticed several bruises on deceased's face. }lo bad seen her fall up against the stove, and against tiie door, previous to Sunday. Dr, W. K. I'yfl'o, who conducted a postmortem examination of tho body, snid there was a bruiso above each eye, and another on tho left cheek, both being itnle-morUm. The head was also bruised, but there was no fracture of the skull. After describing the condition of the internal organs, witness said that the oau«n of death was haemorrhage from duodenal ulcer, probably brought on by alcohol. A verdict was rcturnr-d in accordance with the medical evidence.
