Shield Showings. On Saturday last Newtown were much too strong for the Wellington B teani, and Jefi'ory was the only man who took a rubber from them. Kedward, who is playing woll this season, gavo Columb no chance whatever. In the doubles, playing with Morris, he again had a good win, although the match ran to three sets.' In the Indies' shield matches Miss Macintosh, of Victoria College, played remarkably well in'defeating .such a strong player as Miss Turlon, of Thorndon. Miss Macintosh is one of -those players who never give up until tho verv last shot, and consequently she frequently wears even tho strongest opponents down, and she is not daunted even when the margin against her is a formidable one. - Tor Thorndon, Miss Simpson has Intel* been playing really good tennis, and Miss Tennent did- well to secure her four games in the second sot. The latter player has the style and. strength which go towards making a good player,,'and she would do . well to make the most of opportunities for good practice. The" Newtojrn, ladies' team, like , the men's, made no mistake in their encmin- ■ ter with Wellington B.
