RAIN MARS THE PRACTICE. The Davis Cup competition, the test of International supremacy in lawn tennis, will bo commenced in Christehurch on December 29, and already all the members of the Australasian and American teams are in Christehurch. Dunlop, the second string to the Australasian team, arrived in Christehurch on Tuesday direct from a very strenuous tennis season in .England, where he won many matches. It is of interest to know that Dunlop is a native of ChristchuTch, so the city will be aWv ■'•; <*i team although. The doubles will be played on the Saturday, and the two remaining singles on Monday, January 1. ■.■■■'■ fhe Cup matches will be preceded by the iNew .iealand championships, which will bs commenced to-morrow, and will extend also over Tuesday, Wednesday, and. Thursday of the following week Christmas being a day off. The championships will consist of men's and ladies' singles, men's and ladies' doubles and combined doubles, five classes in all inere will be no handicap events at the tournament.
