MARAMA PUTS IT A RECORD. 13y the Marama which arrived at Auckland from Vancouver via, Fiji yesterday afternoon there arrived A3!) bags of mail matter for New Zealand, of which 3-0 'bags are for Wellington. ]t is stated that this is the largest English and American mo.il which has over arrived in the Dominion in one bottom. There have in past years been seme big mails arriving immediately prior to Christmas, but to get nearly 1000 bags by one steamer easily constitutes a record. The Wellington portion of the Mamma's moils will arrive here to-day by the Main Trunk express. A strengthened staff lias been arranged to cope with the work. The work in the local Post Oflice has been gradually increasing this week, and yesterday saw a marked increase in the quantity of mail matter to be dealt with, which included a belated mail from Sydney by the Warriinoo. A feature of tho ChVistnias postal traffic this year is the rn-appcaranco of up-to-date forms of tho old fancy Christmas card. For some years the Christmas card proper, with its dainty embossed ornamentation and pretty sentimental verses, suffered an eclipse by the übiquitous post-card, but (hero aro evidences that something a little moro ornato than a post-card is required once moro to express that goodwill which everyone should feel at this season of the year.
