TEACHERS' PAY DAY.
NEW STYLE TO BE TRIED. Hitherto the monthly payment of the teachers in the service of the Wellington' Education Board has been made by cheques filled in, signed, and distributed from the board office, to the teachers in charge of the various schools for issue to the individual members of their staffs, a voucher being sent to each .school for signature by the payees. With the idea of facilitating the negotiation of these, as well as of materially lightening tho labours of tho board's clerical staff, an arrangement has been come to between the board and the Bank of New Zealand whereby the former will deposit in tho bank, monthly, an amount covering the total sum required for tho payment of tho teachers throughout the district, and these payments will in future bo made by tho teachers in charge of schools. The head teacher will fill in separate cheques for tho members of his staff, who will, sign them and present them for .payment at tho nearest branch office of the bank.
