A.n elderly man nained James Braddins, living in a ttnt in a quarry, was.goiii" home on Saturday nißht when he fell from the top of the qiiarry bank. His head struck a projecting rock, and ho was tound dead this morning. , TEOM TAKING LYSOL. Thames, December 18. Charles Peel, aged forty-three, residing at tho Thames, and who had been working on a contract at Duck Creek, Hauraki Plains, took a quantity of lysol. and was brought to the hospital in an uuconscious: condition. Ho lingered for some hours and then died. Deceased had been despondent of late. Dr. Walsh, Medical Superintendent at the Thames Hospital, deprecated the indiscriminate and unrestricted sale of such a deadly poison as lysol. He thought the authorities, in the interest of the public, should take some action. The inquest has not concluded. APPAEENTLY kuFFOCATED. ■ Auckland, December IS. The nine-nioaths-old daughter of Mr. Daniel.Kinj, a resident of Ponsonby, was found dnad in bet! on Sunday mornins. The child slept in a bed with its parents. As it was apparently suffocated, it is surmised it was overlain. \ CHILD DEOWNED. Wanganui, December 18. Sydney Nelson, of Kirikapa, aged eleven years, when crossing a bridge yesterday afternoon, fell ■ into tho Nfrunguru River and was drowned. The only witness was a younp .brother, who was unable to assist. The body was recovered. ANOTHER CHILD DROWNED. Thames, December 18. At an inquest on the body of a child mimed Quarterman, drowned in (ho Piako "River, it was slated that the only accupauts of the launch were two women and the child. A dog was playing un tho forepart of tho boat, and in gambolling knocked the child overboard. The'mother saw the child' drown without being able l"i render assistance.
1 ' FATAL COLLAPSE.' Dunedin, December 18. A young man named Hugh Spiers was admitted to the hospital a little after 10 a..m. to-day, apparently suffering from a fit, and died about half an hour afterwards. Deceased came from Cliristchureh, on December 11, and had been staving with friends at Woodhiiugh. Last night ho appeared ill, but refined to have a doctor colled in. Ho rose about 10 a.m. to-day, and went to an outhouse to wash, but fell on tho tloor, apparently in a tit. WAGON AND MOTOR COLLISION. Gisborne, 'December 18. A wagon met a motor-car on a hill road, and went over a bank. Tho wagoner, J. Robertson, was pinned underneath, and had (he stump of his leg, which had previously bein amputated,, broken. : lie was severely braird about the lace and injured in' fho back. Ho was removed to tin- hospital.
