M'Lean, of Ponsonby, who has been in this country for nine months, returns to New Zealand by (lie N.D.L. line, leaving Southampton on Christmas Day. Mr. and Mrs. V. Wilson Steele, of Cheltenhani Beach, Auckland, arrived in London in June, and returned a few (lavs ago. During their stay they travelled*a good deal in this country, Scotland, Ireland, and 'i'rance. The High Commissioner last Thursday evening opened tho winter lecture seasoii at the Browning Settlement, Walworth with n lecture entitled "Glimpses of NewZealand," illustrated by a splendid series of limelight views. Mr. Hilton E. Vaile, late of Auckland, has joined the Harlequin Football Club, and has been away with tho "J" team every week-end since the opening of the season, playing many of tho public schools Dnlwicli, Eastbourne, Rugby, etc. So far they (tho Harlequins) have an unbeaten h - d -' a - Ma^°r - lat ° ° f st - John s Collrjre, Auckland, has just been appointed lu-otor of Copgrovo, a livin" in the gift of Admiral Sir Francis and Lady Bridgeman. The new post is not far from Mr. Major's former work, und he will still remain Vice-Principal of the Clergy Collego at Ripon. Mr. YV. H. Garrison is giving a series of lectures on the Dominions overseas under tho auspices of the Royal Colonial Institute, and is making a special feahiro of New Zealand. Miss Mabel Trcsize, of Asbburton, is now staying in the English lake district. Before leaving this country, on December 22, she hopas to visit Scotland, and stay with friends in Devon and South of England. Miss Trcsizn breaks her homeward journey at Brisbane, which sho visits before goiug to New Zealand. Mr., Arthur lihind. of Wellington, who has born staying in England, very shortly returns to New Zealand, while his brother, Mr. Sydney Rhind, is starting n medical course at London University, having gained an entrance scholarship from St. Cicorae's Hospital. Mrs. Hhind ami family will stay in England for thu nest; I'uiv years. At a meeting of the Association for Befriending Boy.-, to be held at. 3 Grosrennr Place, by permission of Lady Esther Smith, ou Tuesday next, Mr. T. E. Sedgwiek, wlio lias recently returned from placing ii party of town boys on New Zealand farms, will give an address on "Junior Imperial Migration." The Agent-Ueneral for Victoria will also speak.
