MUST HAVE FRINGE.
Both in Paris and London there is u positive rage for fringe, aavs the English corresiioutont of the "Sydney Herald." It is to bo met with on morning, afternoon, aud evening I'rocks, bags, coats, and on hats, in silk, braid, veivet, leather, and beads. It was applied in novel way 1 atcw days since on a very pretty frock of dapis-ianuli bluo paiilo cbarmout®. The skirt was plain, except for n bread band of the matorial, ornamented ivith ctmrmousc-covcrcd buttons about, the sia« of a halt|>enny, which went diagonally from the right-hand side of the waist to the hem oi the skirt, and from there pursued its way across tho front of the skirt from left to right. This strapping was bordered with velvet fringe in tho same shade of blue. The blue coatee, also of ' charnicuso, was box-pleated, with tho tiniest kilts inmginab.o. Down tho front, of the blouse went a strapping of th» material ornamented with buttons. Thero is a feeling of relief and thanksgiving in tho air. The reason is that the little extra width in our now frocks' allows of the return of our old friend tha petticoat, Alas I it is no longer ternj>ostuous. Sobered by its banishment, it boasts no frills, but it is nono the less pleasing on that account, For evening wear it is charming, composed of tha richest satin, exquisitely souple, and bordered with a deep ilounco ot lacc or net is delicately pretty "gilded" with bouillonoes of ribbon to accord with tho gown worn. Lacking the law, or net, it can be beautified by means of flowers, handpainted, Largo market bunches of violets are "thrown" 011 here and there, connected with a riband of pale green. Another charming notion is to have a border of green leaves, and little showers of pale pink rose-petals. I'or wear with n day gown a very long chenille or braid fringe is admirable as decoration. Satin is still preferred to silk for—to use a paradoxical tenn—the "body" of tho skirt.
