A deputation from the National League, which is opposed to women's suffrage, asked tho Primo Minister for a referendum before legislating on the subject. Mr. Asquith replied that whilo ho was opposed to the principle of iho referendum, he thought that in this instance it might bo satisfactorily used, because the question of women's suffrage cut nthwart all party lines.
