(tfrjm Our Own Correspondent.) GEAR COMPANY'S PICNIC. The niinual picnic in connection with the Gear Company's I'etouo 'Works wns held ai Bay's Bay yesterday. Desirfie the (hill weather, there were upwards of 1000 people present, these being conveyed across by tho steamers. The outing was n, very enjoyable one, and the arrangements ol the committee, very complete. Amongst, those pres-ent were Mr. Millward (managing director), Mrs. Millward, and wvernl heads of departments. CATHOLIC SCHOOL CONCERTS. By way of "breaking up" for the Christmas holidays, the Mutt Valley Catholic whools hold very successful concerts. At Lower Hutt on Tuesday afternoon tho concert was attended by a large audience. The l'ctone school held their concert yesterday afternoon, and met with equal success. In both cases the items were supplied by the scholars.
EVENING SPORTS. Tho Petone Junior Club held an open sports : meeting,: on-tho. recreation ground last eveninj,"- and, -as usual, there were good fields, and a largo attendance. Tho msults were as under:—

HCTT PAH'-: AFFAIRS. At a meeting. J! the Hutt Park Committed, held lust night, it was rosolved to make an inspection of that portion of thn grounds where it is proposed to remove the grandstands and out-buildiugs in compliance with tho Wellington City Council's wishos, and also that the clerk be instructed to write to the City Engineer, asking what ho intends to do with the spoil that will bo required to be shifted during removing operations. Owing to ill-health of the caretaker tho work of removing: the dividing fence was left in tho bands of tho chairman and clerk.
