Dealing with the defects in the present Administration, the candidate, pointed out that, while the Government were bent on a borrowing policy iwhieb meant increased taxation), the Heform party was pledged . to a reduction of taxation. The Government, had promised to appoint a. lioyal Commission to inquire into tile increased cost of living, but, if the commission were ever appointed, its report would probably l.e put away in tho pigeon holea, and quickly forgotten. On thn motion of Mr. Costell, seconded by Mr. Hewitt, the meeting unanimously passed a vote of thanks and confidence in the candidate, and pledged itself lo use every effort, to secure his election. ])r. Newman afterwards addressed a larger meeting at O'DonnoU's Hall, Ktlbirnie, where he dispensed with Ihn services of a chairman.
