Tinio, Imin. 51 l-sscc. Scratched: Ariom, Jargon, and Ambrosian. NOTES ON THE' RACING: , (By TeJeeraph.—Special Correspondent.! Woodville, December 11. ItoisteronS' weather was .aGiiiu experienced at Woodville, and, for the greater pail of tho day, the heavy gale was accompanied by drenching ■ rain. Ihe grounds aud track soon became n quagmire, and the racing was carried cm under very unfavourable conditions. .Iho attendance was only moderate, but the racing was again keen, and, on the whole, was an improvement on that of the first day. In the Hurdles a neck separated the first two horses, a head was the verdict given lo Parablo over Corpmandel in the Sumniur .Handicap^. while Mcrrie lad,. Rongpniiti, and Tnrna lini.shed almost in a"'Hue'in"'.the lliick race, and Midiau jiist headed Stevens in the final event, with Se;i Queen on.his quarters.
In the opening, event, ,Gay. Lawless, although obviously backward, was made favourite, but third place was the best that she could achieve. The winner proved to bh Siunpis, this giving IS. Dceley his first win at the meeting. Gay lawless made-the running -to the turn, where Sanguinary took ■ charge, but Deeloy then brought Sinapis along with a fine late .run, alid, burying . tho . rest lor pace, she'"won comfortably. . Waiputcro was-',made a short-priced favourite, iu -the: Hack Hurdles, und'sho clulv landed the slake.. Ilalana went off witli a big break, but tired, at a'mile, ■and, jumping like a stag, Waiputere raced to the front. She vas tackled by Polynicfs at the bend, and the first dny's winner oumpwl tho• last tVnco -in ■ front, but, answering Wo. Uio.stick, Waiputero .enmo .again; and,' in a'Jlina finish, won by a - neck." The winner is'distinctly good, aud'was timed- to;ruu.half .ii mile ,in the m.qrriinj" in Slsec. ■ .."
One would have expected that Plantation, after his easy win on' tho opening day, would have been better backed' in the Hack Welter 'to-day,' but the public preferred the "chances of Jfira ..and Royal Arms. ' Mira started on 'Iho outside todav, and begaumucH , better "than on; (he first day. Plantation went t.t> the front, and, despite vigorous challenges by Overrate, Mira, and Koyal Arms, he lasted long enough to win by a length. Awha and Stdlaris both- showed up" well, and may succeed in. winning. a race shortly. Mira ran very green, and'was flinching under pressure- ut the -finish. Overrate was prominent throughout, 'and he may be "equal; to winning a race at llasterton, where he is trained;
Speculation was divided in the big handicap between, Karablc,:Eo.valAMarine, and the first day's winner.- l'roni the.barrier. ri?o British Maid toot charge, and essayed to again win all "the , way," but the weight was too much, and, a.? they.raced across tho bottom, the whole field closed up. C'oromandel was first into tho straight, but, dowji the-Tunning, Parable got. clear of the others, and, hard ridden, caught tho loader in the last stride. Sir Antrim, whose colours had been-in the van the whole way, • was next, and then came Voetgaug. . .
The Stewards' Hack Handicap was run in a blinding shower of rain. When the field moved oil', Jargon was :just clear, with the remainder bunched. The leader was done at tho turn; where Allurement took charge. Tho remainder never had a winning chance, and whips were out on all. .Merrie Lad got clear, but was challenged by Hongomai. Turna also put iu a claim, but the best that ho could do was to run third'to Merry Lad and Kongomai. ■ '.'■ .;
A rank outsider turned rip in the Railway Handicap, when Moroe won in decisive fashion. -Tho light-weight got a great ruu ou tho' rails,' and, at the finish, she galloped away from everything. The win was a lucky one, and .both Gold Battery and Sea' Eagle should have beaten her. Tho latter ran ' very wide at the turn, and carried Gold Battery with her. Gladiole was out in front for a couplo of furlongs, but soon-stopped in the going.
Backers were now on the run, and a regular "'rot ,, had set in. A rally in favour- of BlakeniT for the Scurry took place, and ho wont out a slightly' worso lavourite than J'ot Luck. Tho start was a good uue, aud all went oft' well. Blakeney soon got a bum]), and was gent back, anil Pot Luck was treated similarly. Eminent, who hails fwm. Fcildiiis, 'was first itii'.i the straight, but, in tlicTruri home, MiiMtor seemed to br- the only nun galloping, and he won vory comfortably. Swallow, a Waipukurau. candidate, with a private reputation,, was third.
