WARDISM AND LABOUR.
SUGGESTED NEGOTIATIONS. The story was circulated on Saturday that: a telegram had been received in Wellington indicating that; Sir Joseph Ward (who returned from the south yesterday) would like to meet the local leaders of tho Labour party at his residence, Tinakori Eoad, at 11 o'clock on .Sunday morning. • A representative of TnE Dominion* accordingly made inquiries in Labour circles, and learnt that no invitation to meet tho Premier had been receired by thoso directly concerned.
Another DojiiNioxi reporter called at "Awarua,'' , but was informed that Sir Joseph Ward was too busy to see him, end had nothing to say to the press concerning the elections, the attitude of the Labour party, or any other matter. So far as could bo ascertained, no conference botween Sir Joseph Ward and Labour leaders has taken place since his Tcturn to Wellington yesterday morning.
It is bolieved that Sir Joseph Ward •wag in communication with the Christchurch Lcbour leaders on Saturday evening.. Tho Maori did not leave Lyttelton until 10 p.m., abont an hour and a half later than her usual time of departure, being presumably held back to suit his convenience.
