A GERMAN SPY.
ARRESTED AT PORTSMOUTH. By Telcerjph-l'rcss Association-Copyriehl London, December 5. A German officer ha& been arrested as a spy at Portsmouth. His name is Captain Hcinrick Grossl. He was formnlly charged at tho Portsmouth Police Court. Evidehce was given tu the effect that lie had made elaborate inquiries as ,fo the coal supplies; alio as to the number of men in barracks.
The police discovered a cipher letter among accused's belongings.
Accused was remanded, but bail was re■used.
A CHEAP STORY. (Bee. December 6, 10.10 p.m.) London, December 61 Captain Grosse, at the inquiry, stated that he wanted information for a book, to enablo German merchants to offer coal wherever there was a shortage. Ho told a pensioner that possibly he would send the latter to other seaports to ciomplete inquiries.
