WAITANGI GOLD MIXING OOMPANT. The mine manager reports progress for flic pat>t week at tho Beach level as follow?:— The havo advanced the drive a further distance of 50 feet, making a total distance of 2SC6 feet; also 9 eets of timber were put in. A lajfre reef was intersected on Thursday. \Ve have driven into it for a distance of 20 feet, and no dsn of a footwall. Some of the nuartz looks well, carrying favourable minerals, tine blende, Galena, and copper, but no free {fold has bccu been. I cannot say whether-this is the main reef- or not. • According to the plan, we would havo to drive another fifty feet to cut the reef. If this proves to be the main Waitanci reef we would have' 212 feet to drive on tho reef to cut under tlie winze. A start has been made in' No. 3 level with two men. The drive has been cleaned up. and a drain cut to'"carry the water away from the winze. A windlass has been nut np, and ladders put in. The winze has been cleanod out t and the water has all cone. .A start.will be made on Monday with two shifts to sink the winze. ' We have decided to sink oil the haußin* wall of thn reef, as progress will be much quicker in the country than in solid quartr.
