By TelfGraph—Pro.** A "snrintfnn- Copyright j (Rec. December 4, 9.20 p.m.) j Sydney, December 4. A deputation from the Evangelical j Council asked Mr. M'Gowcn, Premier, to legislate against boxing contests, which, they declared, were nothing more or less than prize-fights, and argued that Sydney was being made the dumping-ground of pugilists who would not add to the I moral tone of tho place. In reply, Mr. M'Gowen declared that he was ignorant of the modus operandi of these contests, but anything that was tabooed in Great Britain should not be tolerated here. If ho possessed the power to prevent such contests from developing into brutal exhibitions, or anything other than exhibitions of sltill, ho was determined to do it, and tho question of the money element would be considered by Cabinet.
