FEDERAL TARIFF REVISION.
NEW ZEALAND TIMBER AFFECTED. By Teleeriph-Presa AssoeUtion-Oopyrfehl Sydney, December i. In introducing tho tariff amendments, Mr. Tudor, Federal Minister for Trade and Customs, atated that beyond allowing tho importation of New Zealand white pine of certain size freo there would bo no alteration in the timber duties. Ho does, however, raiso the tariff on kauri by the deletion of subilem B, item 303, which reads: "Xew Zealand pine, undressed, 3d. per 100 superficial feet," and tho substitution ot an item dealing only with white pine for butter boxes. This throws other New Zealand pine among sub-item D; timber, undressed, 2s. Od. per 100 ft. Merchants have raised the pricos of Now Zealand timbers other than white pino as follows:—Half-inch a shilling per 100 superficial feet, five-eighths ami three-quarter inch cightpence, inch and over two shillings.
