MASTERTON UNDER NO-LICENSE.

A meeting of the Executive Committee of citizens apnoiuted by tho business people of Masferton. who favour restoration, was held this morning, at which tho following resolution was carried;— "That tho report published by Messrs. Trowin and Jl'lntyro, of I'eilding, through the Press Association, in regard to tho Hammond-M'Manaway challenge is not true in many respocts. Wo find that the first property referred to evidently is Little s garage. Ouo part of tho building was occupied as a garage and another part by at ono time a baker's,shop, and at another time by a saddler, distinctly two shops. Tho Central Hotel photo, referred to tho hotel only, and tho shops could not well havo been loft out. Long's meat mart was empty and still is. Temple Chambers, Messrs. Trowin and M'lntyre said, havo never been empty, tilt the photo, shows a card iu the window bearing this legend: To lot, apply E. Waddington.' The bottles wero photographc-d 0:1 or about August 7, lfll'l. A similar pile collected since then can be seen to-day. In addition to the empty business premises photographed, the following is a list of others now vacantSonoma boardinghouse, Nichol's auction mart, M'Lean's auction mart. Mrs. Adams, fancy goods; Dominion Cafe; Pauling, tailor; a grocer's shop in Pino Street. Also, a most imnortunt industry has been closed, viz.. Lamb's Tararua vineyard, comprising eight acres."

ASKED TO LEAVE THE MEETING. (By Telccranb.- Press Association I Mastcrton, December 1. At a meeting held to-night of those interested in tho welfare of Mastcrton and the restoration of licenses, about two hundred persons (including many young men and Inborn-el's) wero present. Mr. E. G. Eton' presided. A number of No-License supporters, who wero present, wore askod to retire. The Rov. .T. E. Pardons said that ho and others had attended as they had the welfare of Masterton at heart. The chairman stated that tho meeting was for those only who wero in favour of restoration. The Kev. Mr. Parsons, who was reooivod with groans as he. attempted to explain, then retired with about thirty others. Tho meeting subsequently appointed a committee (« carry out arrangements for bringing clcctore to tho poll, and confirmed tho action of the executive in contradicting certain statements contained in a report by those delegates who recently visited Mastcrton from Feilding.

The annual meeting of the Young Women's Christian Temperance Union was held in the Y.M.C.A. rooms Inst night, Mrs. Blamircs in the chair. Tlio following officers were circled President, Mrs. Evans; vice-presidents, Mrs, Blamires and Sirs, Bell; secretary, Miss Whiteombe; treasurer, Miss Parton; reporter, Miss TToulder. The secretary reported that thero were 46 members. Tho (lower committee, with Miss Snnderland lis oonvener, has done good work in distributing flowers to tho poor and Biclt. A choir also visits the Hospital and Home for Aged and Neody on (Saturday afternoons where their singing is appreciated. The balance-shoot. shows a small credit balance.
