WOMEN AVIATORS.
Moro than one Frenchwoman has proved herself an adopt in the difficult art of aoroplaning. Now Mrs. Maurice Hewlett, the wife of the well-known author, has proved that an Englishwoman is able to obtain an aeroplane pilot's certificate. Mrs. Hewlett first became interested in flying during the Blaokpool aviation week of two years ago. She went to France, learnt to fly, and is now running a flying-school at Brooklands, in conjunction with M. Gustave Blondeau. Mrs. Hewlett is of opinion that flying is not a matter of sex. "Women are quite as cool-beaded as men. My belief is that within a few years the women- who now drive their motor-cars will bo piloting their aero- ■ planes." Mrs. Hewlett, however, does not pretond that any woman is likely to do what "Beaumont" and Vcdrines have done. Flights of a thousand miles require a strength of will and nerve which is essontially masculine. But the very effort to fly gives strength and courage. When she first commenced flying, Mrs. Hewlett admits that she had "cold feet," this being the airman's 6lang phrase for being afraid. But later ; came a thrill which drove away every . fear. The sensation of being a thousand . feet abovo sea level was "tho most i glorious sho had ever experienced." Mrs. ; Hewlett's advice to womenfolk is to do as she has dono and prove the joys of . flight. : SEA BATHEHS BEWARE. Take care of your hair.
